Regarding the four initiatives, we have created a group of strategic actions for the development of sustainable solutions in the energetic field. The purpose is to diversify the actions, and simultaneously, to explore synergies among them. We present each of this eight projects, describing their objectives and the expected impact as well as an explaining poster.

INTERCONNECTION OF THE ELECTRIC SYSTEMS OF MEXICO AND UNITED STATES

The interconnection of two big electric systems (USA – Mexico) will have a strong impact on the reliability and costs of the electric supply for the benefit of de binational economic development. This project will study the possibility of its implementation, its technical details using new technologies such as HVDC and the creation of high-level human resources.

Creation of human resources with new technologies, such as HVDC to carry along the modernization of the Mexican electric system.

TECHNOLOGICAL CHALLENGES FOR THE INTEGRATION OF RENEWABLE ENERGIES TO THE MEXICAN GRID

To ease the integration of renewable energies, in a low scale, to the distribution network of CFE by using innovative technology.

Creation of competent human resources in the use of cutting-edge technologies that will improve the visibility of circuits of energy distribution with the synchro phase technology, reducing losses and interruptions of the electric system.

RESTRUCTURATION OF THE MARKET, EFFICIENCY OF RENEWABLE ENERGIES IN THE MEXICAN ELECTRIC FIELD

To analyze the impact of Mexican and California networks in the integration of clean energy (and renewable) in terms of wholesale markets, net traffic, and efficiency. We include market experiences and renewable standards in California.

1.- Calculate the gross flow of energy before and after the deployment of renewable and clean sources in the current grids.

2.- Calculate the levels of traffic and prices.

3.- Measure the planning needs, maintenance, and network expansion.

CHANGE IN ENERGETIC MARKETS IN MEXICO AND THE EVOLUTION OF ENERGY MARKETS IN THE USA, LESSONS AND OPPORTUNITIES

To carry on a comparative study on the regulations of the electric field in Mexico and the United States, facing the new Energetic Reforms in Mexico and their implementation dynamics, the insertion of similar elements of “renewable standards” from California and Texas, and groups of interest.

1.- Analyze the economic theory framework of regulations of energy and competition.

2.- Present, within institutional development, the attributions and activities of the field regulators and the working area for the energetic market.

3.- Analyze the binational dynamics of energetic transition and regulatory instruments.

4.- Extend analysis of clean energies as a base for the binational agenda.

ADVANCED TECHNOLOGIES TO ALLOW A HIGH PENETRATION OF RENEWABLE RESOURCES IN THE DISTRIBUTION SYSTEM

Design of micro networks with optimization solutions and advanced controls for the automatic management of resources, including the energy supply network, diesel generators, or gas turbines, solar, wind, and hydroelectric generators.

1.- Modelling tools (codes in different platforms) and technical reports.

2.- New control methods for the distribution of smart invertors and distributed storage.

3.- New micro network control methods, new designs, and optimization procedures.

BIOENERGY IN MEXICO

1.- Make a high-resolution mapping of the bioenergetics resources available in the country.

2.- Derive a feasible process map for the usage of energetic biomass.

3.- Development of a matchmaking system that recommends technology alternatives for the conversion of a specific kind of biomass.

ENERGETIC EFFICIENCY

This project will research optimization models and data based models for decision-making in the generation and distribution of electricity.

Development of optimization models that help in the determination of action plans in the plants regarding the kind of technology, location, time, addition plans, with the purpose of satisfying the energy demands.

Development of a methodology to generate optimal operation sequences in electricity generation plants to achieve a balance in the fluctuations of the grid due to the contribution of renewable energy. Development of the models based on data mining that may allow identification of better techniques and organizational with the purpose of reducing operation costs of the electric grid.

TECHNOLOGICAL PLATFORM FOR DECISION-MAKING

Implementation of a software platform for the execution and visualization of simulation models used in the decision theater

Create national technology that is capable of executing simulation models for different programming environments.

Design a textual or graphical description language for the definition of the outline of visualization used during the decision-making session.

1.- Modelling tools (codes in different platforms) and technical reports.

2.- New control methods for the distribution with smart invertors and distributed storage.

3.- New control methods for the micro networks, new designs and optimization procedures.
